Emma’s Story

Wake up call revealed ‘full blown’ osteoporosis

“My early menopause put my bones at risk”

Effects of her diagnosis

Emma had an early menopause at 42 and was told then to keep an eye on her bones. A few years later, aged 50, she had a DEXA scan which showed the start of osteopenia. Emma didn’t want to take medication so set about doing more exercise and committed to walking further and more often. She much prefers natural therapies to drugs and ensured a healthy intake of Vitamin D, Vitamin K and calcium supplements to give her bones a boost.

At the time of her osteopenia diagnosis, Emma was really busy at work and prioritised this over her own health. But she had a nasty wakeup call when her young granddaughter accidentally kneed her in the ribs.  Emma was convinced one or two had fractured and she called her GP who advised her to have a DEXA scan to check the state of her bones. “It was June 2020  and I was shocked to learn I had full-blown osteoporosis with a -3.2 score in my spine.”

Her GP insisted the best route was medication

Relieved to find Marodyne LiV

Emma’s sister was also diagnosed with osteoporosis at a similar time and sent by her GP for blood tests to check her vitamin D level. However, when Emma asked her doctor for the same test, he refused and insisted her best route was to take medication.

“My GP wanted me to start immediately on medication, but I didn’t want that – I don’t even like taking paracetamol!” says Emma.  She researched the drug recommended by her doctor and was horrified by the side-effects.

“I set about looking for an alternative solution and was so relieved to find Marodyne LiV. Its positioning and approach sit much better with me.”

Emma’s sister was also impressed by the device and bought one too.

Mending my bones

“I’m putting my faith in the Marodyne LiV”

Emma likes to think that the Marodyne LiV is mending her bones when she uses it each day.

She tries to fit in her target 10,000 steps or an exercise session each day but as she’s also juggling her work and looking after her granddaughter, she doesn’t always manage daily fitness time. Whatever the day brings, however, Emma can fit in 10 minutes on Marodyne LiV.  “I feel reassured that if I don’t fit in my day’s steps or exercise session, Marodyne LiV is helping me redress that by stimulating my bone cells.  And that’s really good to know.”

Alongside this, Emma takes vitamin D, Vitamin K and a calcium supplement. She also eats lots of green leafy veg and takes a bovine protein powder.

“Quite simply, I’m putting my faith in Marodyne LiV. Until I have another DEXA scan I won’t know for sure how things are going, but for now I feel I’m doing all I can.”

Menohealth

We are working together with Menohealth to create a society free from osteoporosis. Julie Robinson, founder of Menohealth, shares our ethos that prevention is better than ‘cure’ when managing menopause symptoms and actively encourages women to take control of their bodies at this time of their life.

“I’m reassured by the fact Marodyne LiV is clinically approved to prevent and combat osteoporosis and the science backing its effectiveness looks strong,” says Julie.  “As a 100% natural way to boost bone health, Marodyne LiV sits well alongside our stance here at Menohealth of taking a holistic approach to healthcare. I have no hesitation in recommending women look at using Marodyne LiV alongside making healthy diet and lifestyle choices during menopause.”
